help credit question by efrosty: What is the difference between paying “credit” or “debit” with a Debit card?
Is it bad to pay as “credit” with a debit card?

Answer by jenny
The only difference that I know of is that you have to enter a pin if you use it as debit and you have the option to get cash back. With credit you just sign for it. It all comes out of your bank account the same.

Debit is when you have to use your pin number and can get cas back~ credit is when you have to sign and usually they will ask for id ~ it’s not bad to say credit ~ it’s in place just in case a store doesn’t except debit card (pin) then you have to use credit

  2. bdancer222 says:

“debit” option requires a PIN. “Credit” options just requires your signature. It makes little difference to the user. I believe the merchant may be charged differently for a processing a debit and a credit.

  3. LL says:

There is no difference between “credit” or “debit” in terms of money going out of your account. You have to enter the PIN when you choose “Debit” and sign when you choose “Credit”. Just make sure that your bank does not charge you when you choose “Debit” and enter the PIN. Some banks do that.

All of the above are correct. And some banks may offer cash back rewards when you use credit. Mine does.

  5. stephen k says:

Debit comes immediately out of the bank account.

Credit comes as a monthly statement that you must pay off

  6. amy f says:

debit requires a pin number and comes out of your bank account immediately and credit requires a signature and may take several days to come out of your account.i usually run mine as debit so i don’t think i have more money in the bank than i actually do.
