small loan question by Erik: “Smaller” Budweiser Millennium Beer Mirror?
I picked this Beer Mirror up yesterday off a guy on Craigslist for about 15$ . It is the smaller (~33in X 27in.) of the two Budweiser Millennium Beer Mirrors that I know exist. I am fairly sure that it is supposed to have some sort of lighting mechanism behind the mirror but it must have been removed and replaced with just a cardboard/wood backing. One other thing that I found is that this mirror is supposed to be returned to the brewery or distributor because it is only on “loan”.
If anyone could confirm any of this information or tell me anything else about this mirror like it’s price, that would be wonderful! I am just having a hard time locating any information about it.

Answer by B.E.I.
I used to work for AB, and the large lighted mirrors sold for $ 750 to the bars (I wanted one, but not for that price). A “large” Bud illuminated mirror (34″x58″) in mint condition is rare and worth $ 800-$ 1,000 to a collector.

I would be worried about “this mirror is supposed to be returned to the brewery or distributor because it is only on “loan”.” and the fact you only paid $ 15 for it. It could turn into a “receiving stolen merchandise” charge if the distributor found out and wanted it back.

As a college professor at Fordham University, I am so accustomed to complex discussions of so many issues. It is so refreshing to read the story of such an obvious and–in the best sense–simple solution to a problem. The illustrations match the text in their bright colors and adult-and-chield-friendly depiction of this wonderful program of empowerment.

One Potato Two is a delightful book for both children and adults. The first person narrator, ten-year-old Mumbi from Kenya, conveys in simple language how a small loan helped her family. Her words convey a deep love for her family, her customs, and her land. Her story also illustrates how microfinancing enables people who are poor to rise from poverty to self-sufficiency. The youngest reader will be attracted to the brightly colored illustrations, and the older reader will appreciate the mix of simple facial features with intricate African designs and background. What a delight!

The illustrations brought me to tears, they are so lovely and full of emotion. This story is simply told and is a great way to share with children how the concepts originated by Muhammad Yunus have been brought to life in Africa. Bravo!
